Louis B. Byrd Jr., has served clients for over 30 years as a lawyer in the areas of criminal law, family law, and education law. Mr. Byrd focuses on dispute resolution through negotiation, and alternative dispute resolution (ADR).

EDUCATION LAW
As a parent of a child with special needs, you have the right to demand a free and appropriate education.
Mr. Byrd has extensive experience in securing your child’s educational rights under Individuals with Disability Education Act section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans Disability Act.
Mr. Byrd has represented parents of children with learning disabilities in the creation and development of Individualized Education Plans (IEP’s) and§ 504 Plans, as well. He has initiated “child find” provisions that have resulted in IDEA (Individual Disability Education Act) eligibility determinations. He has successfully secured public funding for residential treatment, para educator services, Least Restrictive Educational Placement, transportation, specialized services and instruction including auditory processing as well as assistive technology. His representation of children with learning disabilities has led to the development of a federally mandated free and appropriate public education (FAPE) for numerous children in the State of Washington. He also represents the child in educational disciplinary proceedings relating to expulsion and suspension.
